About VESH

VESH London was founded to address a critical need: access to veterinary emergency and specialty care within London.

Currently, many Londoners must travel hours to access such specialty-level care, creating unnecessary stress and burden for pets and their owners.

Our hospital will provide a full spectrum of services under one roof, from 24/7 emergency care to comprehensive specialty care, and groundbreaking clinical research that will shape the future of veterinary medicine.

Specialty Veterinary Care:

VESH will be a full-service veterinary emergency and specialty hospital, giving primary care veterinarians referral access to every major specialty and discipline, in a single, state-of-the-art facility.

VESH aspires to have the most comprehensive service offerings in the UK and to become a leading specialty hospital.

Services that VESH aspires to have within the hospital include the following:

  • Emergency and Critical Care
  • Internal Medicine (Small Animal)
  • Surgery (Small Animal)

Research & Innovation

VESH London will prioritize a culture of science and innovation within the hospital with the ultimate aim to improve how we are able to care for our patients. This effort will involve the research and development of novel diagnostics and therapeutics that seek to provide solutions to areas of veterinary medicine where diagnostic and therapeutic options are currently lacking.

Some of our research will involve conducting clinical trials of new therapies. This will not only provide the patients of VESH with cutting-edge therapies found only within a clinical trial, but also provide free care. The trial covers the entire cost of hospitalization.

About the Founder

Dr. Samuel Stewart, DVM, DACVECC, is a visionary leader and the driving force behind VESH London. Originally from New York, Dr. Stewart earned his veterinary degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in the Caribbean (licensed in the US).

Dr. Stewart then joined the Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital in the Boston, Massachusetts area, where he completed his residency and US board certification in Emergency and Critical Care.

During his tenure at Ethos Veterinary Health, Dr. Stewart co-founded two groundbreaking initiatives: Ethos Science Consultancy, which conducts clinical trials for veterinary innovations, and Ethos Discovery, a non-profit dedicated to pioneering solutions in veterinary and human medicine where existing options fall short.

After relocating to London in 2019, Dr. Stewart identified a critical gap in the city’s veterinary service – the absence of a major hospital delivering 24/7 emergency and specialty care within Central London. Driven by his passion for advancing veterinary medicine and delivering unparalleled patient care, Dr. Stewart founded VESH London to bring his transformative vision to life. His unique expertise and commitment to innovation promise to redefine pet healthcare in London and beyond.

Dr. Sarah Stewart DVM, DACVIM, PGCertVetEd, FHEA, MRCVS is the Medical Director at VESH. She is originally from British Columbia, Canada (and is no relation to Samuel Stewart, VESH’s founder). She graduated with Distinction from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (University of Saskatchewan) in 2008, finishing in the top three of her class. She then completed a rotating internship at NYC Veterinary Specialists in 2009, where she received the “Intern of the Year” Award.

Some of our research will involve conducting clinical trials of new therapies. This will not only provide the patients of VESH with cutting-edge therapies found only within a clinical trial, but also provide free care. The trial covers the entire cost of hospitalization.

Following her internship, Dr. Stewart completed an Internal Medicine residency at the Animal Medical Center in New York City (2009–2012), achieving board certification in the US. Her residency research focused on hypertension and received the hospital award for best project in her graduation year. She then spent three years in a critical care–focused private specialty practice in San Francisco before relocating to the United Kingdom to join the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) faculty. While at the RVC, Dr. Stewart cross-trained in oncology and held a dual appointment in Internal Medicine and Oncology, splitting her clinical and teaching time between both services. During this period, she served as Acting Head of Service for Oncology and was ACVIM Oncology Program Director during a team transition. She has a strong interest in antimicrobial stewardship (the responsible use of antibiotics) and infectious disease, and she served as Co-chair of the hospital’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Group as well as a member of the Infection Control Group.

In 2022, Dr. Stewart transitioned to full-time specialty practice and consulting in internal medicine and oncology. She has worked in both academic institutions and private specialty practices across the UK and internationally, including roles with Massey University (New Zealand), Texas A&M University, Louisiana State University, and the Animal Medical Center. She has served as Editor-in-Chief of Topics in the Companion Animal Medicine medical journal since 2022 and lectures internationally on internal medicine and medical oncology.

Dr. Stewart is passionate about training the next generation of specialists and advancing clinical veterinary education. She volunteered as the ACVIM Ombudsperson for Small Animal Internal Medicine for three years and served on the ACVIM Specialty Exam Rating Committee for six years. Her experience across both the US and UK in academia and private practice will inform her leadership at VESH, where she will help build a culture of research-driven clinical excellence for London’s patients and the primary-care veterinarian community, helping to bring VESH to the high, internationally recognized level she has attained.

Some of our research will involve conducting clinical trials of new therapies. This will not only provide the patients of VESH with cutting-edge therapies found only within a clinical trial, but also provide free care. The trial covers the entire cost of hospitalization.
